The Christiansburg Fire Department consisting of the fire chief and 38 volunteer firefighters will kick off the observance of Fire Prevention Week Oct. 9-15 with a Main Street parade in downtown Christiansburg Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 7:00 p.m.
Established in 1911, the Christiansburg fire Department is a not-for-profit organization under section 501c3 of the IRS code. The theme of this year’s parade is “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape.”
The number of overall calls in the area has decreased from 967 to 938, approximately three percent. The department’s volunteer firefighters are active, serving on boards and/or committees of both the Southwest Firefighters Association and the Virginia State Firefighters Association. As part of their service to the community, they provide tours to local students and help with car seat installation as families prepare for new additions.
The department’s line officers for 2022 are Chief Billy Hanks, assistant fire chief Danny Yopp, deputy chief Brandon Turner, first captain Pete Haislip, second captain Jordan Fenton, first lieutenant Mike Moore, second lieutenant B.J. Smith, and third lieutenant and training lieutenant Mike Hutchison.
The department’s corporate officers are Nathan Brewbaker, Floyd Childress, Mike Dickerson, Mike Moore, Donnie Reed, and Potsie Smith.
Engineers for the department are Doug Adkins, Jeremy Compton, David Flinchum, Justin Griggs, John Linkous, Daniel Mussleman, Link Sheppard, and Brandon Winesett.
Department firemen are David Akers, Noah Aliff, Scott Canada, Jon-Luk Cole, John Epperly, Billy Linkous, Kevin Meredith, Scott Phillips, Alan Shaw, Barry Simmons, Bobby Sowder, William Spencer, Curtis Whitt, Jeremy Williams, Danny Wilson, and Frank Wright.
