Michael “Mickey” Scott McGuigan, 67, of Blacksburg, passed away suddenly after a battle with cancer on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023.
He was born on Monday, May 23, 1955, to the late Virginia Hunt McGuigan and John Thomas McGuigan.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Zopf, and his brother, Steve McGuigan.
He is survived by his wife, Jane McGuigan; daughters Emily Lippard and Katy McGuigan; a son, Scott McGuigan; an honorary daughter, Yolanda Ervin-Bronston; a brother, Dave McGuigan and his wife, Lee; nephews Matt, Ryan, Colin, and Macson McGuigan, Wesley Zopf; and a niece, Wendy Lynch.
Mickey dedicated his life to teaching, coaching, and loving those around him. He taught in Montgomery County Public Schools for 40 years, specializing in math and science. In 2022, he was inducted into the Blacksburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame to honor an extraordinary 28 years of coaching that included winning three girls’ basketball state championship titles.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at the McCoy Funeral Home at 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Michelle Stramiello officiating.
