Virginia Tech is among the nation’s best workplaces for commuters, according to the Center for Urban Transportation Research, an internationally recognized transportation research center.
The center designated Virginia Tech as one of the 2023 Best Workplaces for Commuters in offering outstanding commuter programs to students and employees.
Best Workplaces for Commuters is the national authority on recognizing and assisting workplaces that provide exceptional commuter benefits to employees. The innovative membership program represents over 600 workplaces with Best Workplaces for Commuters designation representing over 2 million employees.
“Virginia Tech is one of the top universities in the nation offering high-level commuter benefits to their employees and students,” said Julie Bond, program manager for Best Workplaces for Commuters. “They give commuters the support they need to get to and from campus and be at their best before, during, and after their workday or school day.”
Virginia Tech is one of 76 universities to receive the honor in 2023.
The Virginia Tech Sustainable Transportation Department, formerly known as Alternative Transportation, offers the campus community a range of commuter benefit options and programs:
Free access to the award-winning Blacksburg Transit bus system with a Virginia Tech ID.
The Hokie Bike Hub, a free, self-service bike repair and maintenance facility for students, faculty, and staff.
A carpool-matching program and Emergency Ride Home program through RIDE Solutions.
Free bus service between the Blacksburg campus and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC in Roanoke.
“We take immense pride in being named as one of the 76 2023 Best Universities for Commuters,” said Nick Quint, transportation network manager and Fleet Services manager. “Our university-paid commuter benefit program reflects our commitment to the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff while helping reduce traffic congestion, parking demand, and negative environmental impact.”
