Montgomery County has been awarded $26,684 in federal funds through the Emergency Food
and Shelter National Board Program for Phase 40.
Additional state-set-aside funding may be available as well.
A local board will determine how the funds will be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds
must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, must be be eligible to receive federal funds, must have an accounting system, must practice nondiscrimination, must have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) must have a voluntary board if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.
Public or private agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds
must contact the United Way of the New River Valley at 540-381-2066 for an application. The deadline for applications to be received is Feb. 22, 2023.
