Blacksburg High School has a new volleyball coach, and it’s a familiar face in former junior varsity coach Madison Haynes.
“I applied for this job because volleyball has been a part of my life since I was in middle school. I love spreading my love of the game with other athletes,” she said.
Haynes grew up in Bassett and attended Bassett High School, playing travel volleyball in Roanoke.
After high school, she played four years at Bridgewater College and was then an assistant coach at Staunton High School 2021-2022 before relocating to Blacksburg where she served as the junior varsity coach this past year.
“My goals are to rebuild the Blacksburg volleyball program,” Haynes said. “Thankfully, I have been able to coach these girls in high school and some through travel. They know that I love to have fun, but when it comes to being in the gym, we are there to do a job. We lost in the region semifinals this year, so my goal is to make it to state this fall.”.
This past season, Blacksburg finished 14-8 overall and 8-4 in the River Ridge District.
