RADFORD – The Highlander Hotel Radford’s rooftop restaurant and bar, Bee & Butter, is now open and accepting reservations. With a culinary team led by Executive Chef James Kirby and Sous Chef Amy Murray, the new Bee & Butter features local, seasonal ingredients, regional cuisine, and stunning mountain and campus vistas.
Kirby is a veteran of a wide array of fine and casual dining restaurants including the legendary three Michelin-star restaurant The Inn at Little Washington, where he rose to sous chef during his five-year tenure. He has also worked at other notable locations in and around the nation’s capital region including Blue Duck Tavern, the Watergate Hotel, and L’Ardente. Kirby has helped train the next generation of chefs as a culinary instructor and owns an organic farm where he cultivates the best produce to supply to top restaurants across the state.
“This is a region with great foodways and traditions,” Kirby said. “At Bee and Butter, we’ll be using seasonal, local ingredients to bring guests a taste of the Blue Ridge with a twist. We’re working with as many food producers in the area as we can to bring an elevated dining experience to locals and visitors alike in a beautiful but relaxed atmosphere.”
Sous Chef Amy Murray also brings an impressive culinary resume. Prior to joining the Highlander Hotel Radford team, she worked at a wide range of restaurants across the U.S. including celebrity chef Tom Colicchio’s establishment, Temple Court in New York City’s Beekman Hotel.
“I’ve worked with Chef Kirby before, and I am excited to be part of this new hotel and dining experience,” Murray said. “I love using special ingredients and fun techniques to offer an exceptional dining experience and this rooftop dining experience lets me do all of that while still being a bit whimsical in our delivery.”
