BLACKSBURG – Bicycles will be celebrated and elevated during the week of May 19 ‐ 26 all around Blacksburg.
A community partnership is teaming up to create the first annual Bikesburg week, inviting residents and visitors to get on their bikes, have fun, and explore our community in a new way.
The weeklong celebration starts on Friday, May 19 with a kick‐off gathering for the Bike to Work Week Challenge on Draper Road. The following day, Saturday, May 20, Mayor Leslie Hager‐Smith will lead an all‐ages/all abilities bike parade down Main Street, followed by a downtown festival on College Avenue.
Highlights of the festival will include a kids’ bike rodeo, vendors, e‐bike demonstrations, art‐making, story time, and a film at the Lyric. Events are scheduled for each day of Bikesburg including: garden tours, a bike‐themed book discussion at Blacksburg Books, bike yoga, a bike commuting class, a bike‐themed book display at the library, a trail‐building service opportunity, social rides, a bike gear swap, and a celebration/awards ceremony for the Bike to Work Week Challenge. Some events require registration; check the website for details and additional event descriptions at downtownblacksburg.com/events/bikesburg.
Also during the week of Bikesburg 2023, participating businesses will be offering a passport and stamps for cyclists who visit their stores by bike (no purchase required). Completed passports can be entered for several prize drawings! #bikesburg.

(DBI), New River Valley Bicycle Association (NRVBA), Town of Blacksburg, VT Sustainable Transportation, Sustainable Blacksburg, Lyric Theatre, Blacksburg Farmers Market, Regional Commission/Ride Solutions, Poverty Creek Trails Coalition, and Friends of the Huckleberry.
