BLACKSBURG – Kenny Harrah, Director of Fitness since 2016, has been named the LeadingAge Virginia Power of Purpose Award recipient for 2023.
LeadingAge Virginia is the state and national trade organization for nonprofit retirement communities. It works with members to create innovative practices that transform services for the aging in America and plays an active role in representing those organizations to legislators in seeking reform of policies related to health care. WHV has been an active member of LeadingAge since 1981.
Each year LeadingAge honors outstanding leaders in the industry with these key awards: Vision, Emerging Leader, Advocacy, and Power of Purpose. The Power of Purpose Award recognizes one person who leads the way in providing outstanding commitment to the residents within their role in the community, leads with or exhibits a person-centered approach of compassion to individuals they serve, shows specific actions that enhance and enrich the lives of residents and goes beyond the role consistently representing the community’s mission, vision and values.
Harrah is instrumental in lifting people up, keeping them active, and reminding them they are important members of our community who continue to have ideas and contributions to make. He works hard to champion and implement them. Warm Hearth’s outdoor Pickleball court and Rock Steady Boxing for those with Parkinson’s Disease began as wishes and ideas from our residents and are now realities in part due to Kenny’s commitment to our residents and his support of their contributions to our community. The Warm Hearth vision is to nurture a transformative culture where people live and work in community, knowing their contributions are essential to our success. Kenny exemplifies this vision and enriches the lives of our residents every day.
“I’m proud of my team and the work we do every day, here in Fitness,” Harrah said. “None of this would have been possible without the help of my team, our President & CEO, the Director of Marketing and Development, and my fellow coworkers. I’m humbled by this recognition and honored to work with these impressive individuals and residents at WHV,” he added.
William Lester, President & CEO, congratulated Harrah and said, “I am so proud of Kenny and how we all work together to be sure our residents, and each other, are living their best life possible.”
