Iowa State University announces spring semester 2023 Dean’s List
AMES, Iowa – More than 9,800 Iowa State University students have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the spring semester Dean’s List including, Leah May Greiner, Animal Science, and Tiffany Norman, Event Management, both of Christiansburg. Students named to the Dean’s List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.
Local student graduates from Bucknell University
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell University celebrated over 800 graduates from the Class of 2023 on Sunday, May 14, 2023, including Anna Kender of Blacksburg. The class represents over 60 majors across Bucknell’s three colleges (Arts & Sciences, Engineering and the Freeman College of Management). These students hail from 33 U.S. states and 25 nations. Bucknell University is founded in 1846 and located along the banks of the Susquehanna River in historic Lewisburg, Pa.
Local residents named to William & Mary Dean’s List

In order to achieve Dean’s List status, a full-time degree seeking undergraduate student must take at least 12 credit hours and earn a 3.6 quality point average during the semester. William & Mary is the second oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.

Freed-Hardeman University announces Spring 2023 President’s, Dean’s Lists
HENDERSON, Tenn. – Freed-Hardeman University has released the names of students who made the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the Spring 2023 semester. To be on the President’s List, a student must be full-time and have a 4.0 grade point average. Students on the Dean’s List have earned a minimum 3.4 grade point average for the semester.
The following students from the local area have received this honor:
Jessica Musselman, of Riner, has been named to the President’s List. Musselman is earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry.
Kenna Smith, of Christiansburg, has been named to the Dean’s List. Smith is earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology Environmental Science.
August Chien earns graduate degree from Hollins
ROANOKE – August Chien, of Christiansburg, received the MALS in Humanities, on October 1, 2022, and was recognized during Hollins University’s 181st commencement ceremony on May 21, 2023.
Hollins is an independent liberal arts university offering undergraduate liberal arts education for women and selected graduate programs for women and men.
Chase Beams of Blacksburg named to UA Presidents List
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Chase Beams was named to The University of Alabama Presidents List for fall semester 2022.
A total of 12,791 students enrolled during Fall Semester 2022 at The University of Alabama were named to the dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s).

Juan Celi earns degree from University of Maryland Global Campus
ADELPHI, Md. – Juan Celi, of Christiansburg, earned a Bachelor of Science Magna Cum Laude in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity from University of Maryland Global Campus in spring 2023. Celi was one of nearly 3,400 students who earned degrees from UMGC in the spring semester. Graduates came from all 50 states, four U.S. territories, and 22 countries. The average age of a UMGC graduate in the spring class of 2023 is 35 years old. University of Maryland Global Campus was founded more than 75 years ago specifically to serve the higher education needs of working adults and military servicemembers.

Chase Beams named to University of Alabama Presidents List
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Chase Beams was named to The University of Alabama Presidents List for spring semester 2023.
A total of 12,487 students enrolled during spring semester 2023 at The University of Alabama were named to the dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). These driven students are making waves across UA’s more than 70 undergraduate programs and 12 colleges and schools.
Shenandoah University announces graduates
WINCHESTER, Va. – Shenandoah University had 1,143 graduates receive their degrees and/or certificate during the 2022-23 academic year.
Those graduates include: Tayler Lewis of Elliston, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy; and Kaitlyn Olsen-Schoch of Blacksburg, who earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Shenandoah had 200 August 2022 graduates, 295 December 2022 graduates, and 648 May 2023 graduates. Shenandoah’s 2023 commencement ceremony took place on May 20 in the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics and Events Center. Shenandoah University was established in 1875, and is headquartered in Winchester.
Ethan McDowell of Blacksburg graduates from Emerson College

Rebekah Mui inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, La. – Rebekah Mui, of Blacksburg, was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Mui was initiated at Virginia Tech. Mui is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.
Allen Briggs of Blacksburg makes dean’s list at RIT
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Allen Briggs, of Blacksburg, was named to the Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. Briggs is in the game design and development program. Full-time degree-seeking undergraduate students are eligible for Dean’s List if their term GPA is greater than or equal to 3.40.
W&L announces Class of 2027 Johnson Scholarship recipients
Lexington, Va. – Washington and Lee University has announced the students who will receive a Johnson Scholarship as members of the incoming Class of 2027.
Nathanael Seife of Christiansburg High School has been awarded a Johnson Scholarship and is one of 50 students in W&L’s Class of 2027 to receive the prestigious merit-based scholarship.
Cole Eastwood of Blacksburg named to Deans’ List at Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. – Cole Eastwood of Blacksburg has been named to the Deans’ List at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the spring semester of the 2022-23 academic year.
Eastwood, a freshman majoring in sports media and communication, was named to the Dean’s List for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications.
Local Emerson College students earn Dean’s List honors
BOSTON, Mass. – The following students are named to Emerson College’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester. The requirement to make Dean’s List is a grade point average of 3.7 or higher for that semester.

Wenda Xu receives degree From Georgia Tech
ATLANTA, Ga. – Wenda Xu, of Blacksburg, has earned a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Xu was among more than 5,300 undergraduate and graduate students to be presented Georgia Tech degrees during the Institute’s 264th Commencement exercises May 5 – 6, 2023, at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
