Radford High School capped off an undefeated football season with a state Class 2 title, and now several Bobcats are receiving well-earned individual accolades.
The Virginia High School League has announced its All-State Class 2 team, and Radford’s Landon Clark is the state’s offensive player of the year, while linebacker Charlie Davis is the state’s defensive player of the year.
Head coach Michael Crist, who is 33-6 in his first three seasons at Radford, was named the Class 2 coach of the year.
Clark was joined on the first-team offense by his battery-mate in center Nolan Dalton and his favorite receiver in Max Kanipe.
Clark will finish his Bobcat career with 3,363 yards passing in his senior year going 206 of 339 with 40
touchdowns. He will also finish this season with 1,207 yards rushing to lead the team on 134 carries with
26 touchdowns.
Kanipe will finish his season with 74 receptions for 1,598 yards with 17 touchdowns. Taylor added 51 for
804 yards. Davis has tallied 157 tackles this season with 62 solos.
Davis was joined on the first-team defense by Clark who was named as a defensive back. The Elon-commit Clark was also named to the second team as a punter. Davis was a second team offensive lineman. Radford’s Ricky Bailey was named second team defensive lineman.
Earlier Clark and Davis received the regional honors for offensive and defensive player of year respectively. Coach Crist was also named the Region C coach of the year.
Clark was joined on the first team all-region by center Nolan Dalton, offensive lineman Charlie Davis and receiver Max Kanipe.
Davis led the region at linebacker and was joined by teammates, Ricky Bailey at defensive lineman and Clark at punter and defensive back.
Second team all-region honors were given to several Bobcats. On the offensive side of the ball, runningback J.D. Grubb was joined by receivers Luke Woodward and Sincere Taylor along with tight end Brandon Thompson.
Lineman Dawson Martin and linebacker Brandon Thompson were named second team for defense.
