RADFORD – Radford City Public Schools has a new superintendent.
The Radford City School Board convened in Radford City Council chambers Thursday evening to make the announcement. Dr. Adam Joyce, who previously served as Galax City Public Schools Director of Instruction, was chosen from 10 candidates, all of whom hailed from Virginia, and will begin his tenure as Radford’s superintendent Jan. 16, 2024.
In making the announcement, School Board Chair Jenny Riffe welcomed Joyce to the Radford family and thanked Interim Superintendent Dr. Roger Collins for stepping in to lead RCPS during the search process.
“Your Radford City School Board has been hard at work for the past six months to seek out our next Superintendent,” said Riffe. “We began our search process in earnest by appointing the esteemed Dr. Roger Collins as our Interim Superintendent in June, 2023. Dr. Collins has been an amazing interim who dove headfirst into “keeping the main thing the main thing” at RCPS. We have loved working with him and he has become an invaluable member of our Bobcat family.”
“It is with a great deal of excitement that the Radford City School Board has selected Dr. Adam Joyce to lead our school division as our next Superintendent of Schools,” she continued. “Dr. Joyce is not a stranger to the Radford community. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and his Doctor of Education degree in Education Leadership from Radford University. He is currently the Director of Instruction with Galax City Schools. He was the former Principal of Pulaski Middle and Dublin Middle Schools. He was also the former Assistant Principal of Carroll County High School. Dr. Joyce began his education career as a special education and civics teacher in Carroll County Schools.
“Please help me in welcoming Dr. Adam Joyce and his wife, Cindy, who will be moving to Radford within the year.”
Joyce addressed the crowd and thanked the school board for the opportunity.
“I’m excited to join this team, and I’m excited to work hard for the students, the staff, the families and the community,” he said. “I’ve always believed, and now I know, that Radford is a strong division and I can’t wait to see all the things we can do for our students. I look forward to maintaining an open line of communication, making myself available, and serving as the latest cheerleader [for Radford City Public Schools].”
