For over 30 years the Rotary Club of Blacksburg has presented a Citizen of the Year Award to a Montgomery Co. resident who exemplifies Rotary’s values of business ethics, personal integrity and service to others.
The Award was presented to Daniel Hamrick at a recent Rotary Club ceremony. In describing why Hamrick was selected, words like Service, Duty, Honor, Ethics, Sacrifice were used often in describing Dan Hamrick. A Christiansburg native, Hamrick was characterized as an “All American Boy”, known and admired throughout the community. He excelled in school and athletics; earned perfect attendance pins at church ; achieved Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts ; left college to join the Army, serving in Viet Nam flying Huey helicopters.
He returned to the New River Valley and began a law career that has spanned over 40 years. In introducing Hamrick, the Rotary Club noted his exceptional core principals and high ethical standards, as well as his life of service to the community.
Hamrick thanked Rotary for presenting this Award each year, and said he was honored and humbled by this recognition, and appreciated his being considered.
