Walton S. Lee, of Floyd County, passed away Jan. 17 at the age of 81. He was the son of the late William Jennings Lee and Jessie Pearl Peters Lee.
He was born near Libertytown, Md. Oct. 9, 1942, and grew up in Maryland. He served in the U. S. Navy on the ship, The USS Galveston from 1959 to 1963 where he achieved the rank of Master Machinist 3rd class. He retired from the Montgomery County School Board in 1989 after 25 years.
After retiring he got his captain’s license and ran charter fishing trips out of Deale, MD. on his boat the Bay Pearl. He was a member of VFW Post 7854, American Legion 127, Masonic Lodge 329, and The Moose, all in Floyd Virginia, and also Amvets Post 2 in Frederick, Md. He had a small farm in Floyd County at the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; stepson, Travis Epes IV and his wife, Cara; and grandson Travis Epes V. Also surviving him are a brother, Byron Lee, special niece, Teresa (Terri) Koogler and husband Robin, and many nieces and nephews and friends who were also blessed by his love. Also surviving him are his first wife, JoAnn Finnyfrock Lee, and godchildren Kelly Wissinger (Scott) and Jimmy Stickles (Dawn) and their children.
His loving kindness, his contagious smile and laughter and his generosity will be forever treasured by those who loved him.
A celebration of life is being planned in Maryland for later this year.
