The Town of Blacksburg’s Housing and Community Connections (HCC) Office invites residents to review and comment on the proposed draft of the 2024 Annual Action Plan for the HOME and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Programs.
In 2021, a five-year Consolidated Plan to support the development of affordable housing in the New River Valley and support community services for low and moderate-income residents was established with community input. Each year thereafter, through the Annual Action Plan, the HCC office reports back to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) on the progress made towards the goals and objectives set in the five-year plan.
The town works with the New River Valley Regional Commission and representatives from neighboring communities to develop affordable housing throughout the NRV through the federally funded HOME grant. The CDBG grant funds are used to support non-profit programs that assist low and moderate-income families in the areas of homelessness, special needs, economic development and community development in the Town of Blacksburg. Currently, the funding supports the homeless services provided by the Women’s Resource Center and New River Community Action and support services including Valley Interfaith Child Care Center and the Blacksburg Community Gardens. The grant also funds the Town’s Home Repair Program.
A draft of the Annual Action Plan can be viewed online, in person by appointment at 303 Wilson Ave., or in hard copy format, which may be found at the Blacksburg Library located at 200 Miller St. SW. Residents are invited to participate in a Public Comment meeting at an in-person meeting Wednesday, March 6, 4 – 5 p.m., at 303 Wilson Ave., immediately followed by a live ZOOM call from 6-7 p.m. To request a link to the ZOOM call, please call (540) 443-1615.
