CHRISTIANSBURG – The Town of Christiansburg is pleased to announce Retta Jackson has joined the staff as the new Planning Director.
Jackson is from Wytheville and has lived in Christiansburg since 2022. Before joining the Town of Christiansburg, Jackson served as the Town Manager and Zoning Administrator for the Town of Hillsville.
Jackson joins the Town with nearly 10 years of professional experience in municipal management, zoning administration, fiscal planning, and policy development. She has been credited with leading her previous locality into better financial stability and helping with the revitalization of multiple derelict properties. Her unique role as Town Manager and Zoning Administrator brings an all-encompassing perspective to the Christiansburg Planning Department.
“Retta joins us with an extensive background in local government and will undoubtedly provide valuable perspective to the role of Planning Director,” said Town Manager Randy Wingfield. “Her background in planning and economic development will help the town continue its commitment to exceptional services for residents and businesses. We look forward to having her join the team.”
As a Southwest Virginia native, Jackson spent many days exploring Christiansburg and is extremely familiar with the area and all it has to offer. She received a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Virginia Tech, as well as her Master of Business Administration from Western Governors University. Additionally, she has received a graduate certificate in Local Government Management from Virginia Tech, as well as participation in the Virginia Women’s Municipal Leadership Institute.
“I am honored to have been chosen as the Planning Director for Christiansburg,” said Jackson. “I will work hard to take care of the town and the community to the best of my abilities, and to be a cohesive link to all vested parties. We are all interested in the same thing, and that is the success of our community. I’m excited to be a part of that.”
Jackson began serving as Christiansburg Planning Director on Monday, Feb. 26.
