Virginia Techniques Gymnastics gymnast Jenna Kidd has qualified to the USAG Level 9 Eastern National Championships.
Kidd, 15, is a freshman at Blacksburg High School and trains five days a week at Virginia Techniques. She is coached by owner and team director Cheryl Johnson, head coach Amanda James, and optionals coach Tad Piscatelli.
Kidd earned her spot in this prestigious championship meet after a strong all-around performance at the recent USAG Region 7 Regional Championship meet, held at the Nittany Valley Sports Center in State College, Pa. April 11-14.
At regionals, Kidd claimed the uneven bar event title with an impressive 9.5. She placed third on the floor exercise with a score of 9.625. Her all-around score was a 37.325, placing her fifth in the Junior 8 age division and securing her a spot in USAG Eastern National Championships. Kidd is also the Virginia USAG Level 9 silver medalist on the uneven bars, floor exercise and all-around.
The USAG Gymnastics Women’s Program is comprised of eight regions throughout the nation, representing all 50 states. Region 7 Gymnastics is the governing body of USAG Gymnastics representing Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The top seven all-around finishers and one alternate from each age group at Regionals qualify to represent Region 7 at the Eastern National Championships.
“We are proud of Jenna for qualifying to compete at this prestigious event,” said Cheryl Johnson, owner, and head coach of Virginia Techniques Gymnastics. “Jenna has had a wonderful season. Her hard work, dedication, and perseverance have paid off, and we could not be more excited for her to have this opportunity to compete and showcase her skills amongst the best of the best at this level.”
Kidd will compete at the USAG Development Program 2024 Eastern National Championship May 4 at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. VA Techniques has had five other gymnasts qualify to Eastern Nationals over the last eight years.
