The Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg presented its 2023-2024 Youth Awards to Montgomery County Public School students at the Club’s May 6 meeting.
Fifty-nine juniors and seniors from Auburn, Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and Eastern Montgomery High Schools were recognized in the areas of academic achievement, career and technical education, and ethics.
Rotary Code of Ethics Awards were presented to the senior boy and girl at each school, nominated by their teachers, who best exemplify the traits delineated in the Rotary Four-Way Test: “Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?” Leah Kouns and Carson Miller of Auburn High School; Evan McGrory and Amelia Webster of Blacksburg High School; Dylan Car and Eliane Lyons of Christiansburg High School; and Naomi Ramos-Mendoza and Drew Smith of Eastern Montgomery High School received this award.
Career and Technical Education Awards were presented to two students from each school, nominated by their teachers, who have achieved excellence in their chosen field of vocational education. Kasey Rosenbaum and Coleman Wright of Auburn High School; Gabriel Mendoza and Lorelia Spradlin of Blacksburg High School; Joseph Baines and Kaylee Luu of Christiansburg High School; and Hayden Hall and Riley Ollis of Eastern Montgomery High School received this award.
Academic Achievement Awards were presented to the top 5% of the junior class based on grade point average to Madison Booth, McKenzie Booth, Tanyon Cauley, Callie Gallimore, and Shane Riggins of Auburn High School; Sepehr Agah, Tea Bissell, Anthony Du, Clara Guo, Tess Larsen, Grace Lee, Alexander Li, Marina Li, Radia Lu, Max Matthews, Thomas Monaghan, Minh Nguyen, Emily Paul, Abbigail Schnitz, Joshua Shi, Kyler Williams, and Elizabeth Zhang, of Blacksburg High School; Cole Abbott, Cole Arnold, Dalton Arnold, Ainsley Altizer, Lucile Burningham, Gracie Conner, Nora Cross, Bryson Fisher, Norah Hall, Abigail Hewitt, Micah Newcomb, Bisan Rai, Ava Rose, Samuel Seife, Alexandria Swenson, Micaiah Widrig, Benjamin Willey, and Cosette Williams of Christiansburg High School; and Olivia Wilbon, Gracie Walthall, and Meghan Kidwell of Eastern Montgomery High School.
The Rotary Club of Christiansburg-Blacksburg celebrated 100 years of Service Above Self in 2023. The Rotary Youth Awards, Professional Leadership and Citizen of the Year Awards, youth development programs, and community service projects, as well as participation in Rotary International programs such as PolioPlus exemplify this motto.
