The Pioneer District has announced its spring all-district teams with two players from Eastern Montgomery High School receiving top honors.
Mary Miller was named the 2024 Pioneer pitcher of the year in softball, and Talen Bruce was the player of the year in boys’ soccer.
Miller was joined on the first-team softball squad by teammates, Katie Salyer, Sam Brien, Alexis Artip, Mack Hubbard and Sophie Vishneski.
Eastern Montgomery’s Macie Akers and K.K. Roupe were named to the second team. The honorable mention list included three from the school, Kelly Mills, Chelsie Kennedy and Rena Chandler.
The boys’ soccer team finished 14-5 this season and won the Pioneer District regular season, being knocked from the Region C playoffs earlier this week by cross-county rival Auburn. Bruce was the team’s leading scorer and was named the Pioneer District player of the year.
Bruce, a junior, was joined on the first team by teammates, Aija McHone, Osman Amaya, Spencer Sisson, Kevin Vasconcelos, Kess Greer, Grayson Richardson and Caleb Sampson.
A total of 11 players from Eastern Montgomery were honored as Clayton Holloway, Jose Mejia Martinez and Nick Smith were named to the second team.
Gunner Lawson added to that total with an honorable mention spot.
Three players from the school were named to the all-district first-team baseball. They included pitcher Austin Tate, outfielder Coltin Conner and Marshall Tate at-large.
Eastern Montgomery placed four on the second team in Caleb Jones, Cam Sutphin, Tyler Atkinson and Hunter Howard. Teammate Drew Smith was named to the honorable mention list.
