CHRISTIANSBURG- In between sets at the Rockin’ Main Street Concert this past Saturday, June 8, 2024, Mayor Michael Barber proudly announced the Christiansburg High School Softball team’s first ever state championship win.
Christiansburg High School’s softball team won their first ever state championship this past Saturday. As they were driving through town to return to the high school, they were escorted by Christiansburg Police and Fire and they made a pit stop at the concert where they were able to run to their families, holding their trophy high with pride.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Mayor Barber said to the crowd, “please join me in welcoming the class three state women’s softball champions, our own Christiansburg Blue Demons.”
Barber gathered with the girls in front of the stage to take a celebratory photo and congratulate them in person. The second band of the evening, Lyn Avenue, gave the team a shout out during their set, saying “How about those blue demons”.
The Rockin’ Main Street Concert series is a popular summer event among Christiansburg and Montgomery County residents. The concert is free for the community and many residents bring chairs and their families to enjoy the festivities during the summer months. Citizens enjoy beer and wine from vendors as well as non-alcoholic beverages like fresh lemonade from Squeeze’um and Shake’um and other vendors. There was cornhole and other games like giant Jenga for everyone to enjoy.
Drew Pace, the first musical act of the night, is a Virginia native who rocked the crowd with his rock and roll country sound. Lyn Avenue returned to Christiansburg for the June 8 concert all the way from Savannah, Georgia, to perform a medley of charming country music. Children, adults and those in between sang along and danced to the music well into the evening hours. This was the second of the concert series hosted by Christiansburg Parks and Recreation and the Town of Christiansburg. There will be another Rockin’ Main Street event on Aug. 10, 2024.
