CHRISTIANSBURG – Christiansburg Library and the Friends of the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library announce the return of Music on the Lawn, a free concert series.
On the fourth Saturday of the month, a local band plays a concert on the library lawn after hours.
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for an evening under the stars. Feel free to bring a picnic as well. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held inside the library.
The line-up includes:
Saturday, June 22, 6 -7:30 p.m.: Virginia Hollow, a band with a sound born from the hills, valleys, and mountains of Appalachia. Their performances and music take you on a journey fraught with raw emotions and stories of love, trust, betrayal and longing. Band members include Carrie Hinkley: vocals and acoustic guitar, Alan Graf: guitar, banjo, and mandolin, and Sue Winchester: upright bass and harmony vocals.
Saturday, July 27, 6 -7:30 p.m.: Lonesome Heart, an energetic bluegrass band featuring a group of talented musicians who bring a fun blend of original music, traditional bluegrass, gospel, and country music to the stage. Band members include Nikki Wright – fiddle and vocals, Emily Handy – bass player, Scott Patrick – guitar, vocals, and song writer, Ethan Handy – banjo and guitar and Eric Handy – dobro player.
Saturday, Aug. 24, 6 -7:30 p.m.: Eight Point Star, whose music was featured in the Blue Ridge PBS documentary, The Story of the New River, is adept at serving up old-time Appalachian classics and mountain-based originals that expand the genre into exciting new areas.
Saturday, Sept. 28, 6 -7:30 p.m.: Root Down, a collection of jazz enthusiasts from SWVA. They are a diverse group of musicians who have worked together in various settings for the past decade. The more recent Root Down group aspires to bring their love of jazz, funk, rock and blues to audiences and venues throughout the region. The quintet consists of Justin Craig- guitar, Doug Norton- keys, Alan Munshower- drums, Nick Romantini- bass and Lou Madsen- sax.
