Christiansburg High School is looking for a new girls’ basketball coach as Jacob Underwood turned in his resignation this past week.
Underwood, who spent the past two years at CHS, which was his first as head coach, has been named to the same position at Ft. Chiswell.
Underwood had been with the girls’ program for the past two and two previously with the boys’ team.
In a social media post, Underwood said he left things better than he found them.
“Forever thankful and grateful for the opportunity to lead such a wonderful group of girls. I love them all and know they’re going to continue to grow. We fought every day to make this program into a winner,” he said.
He took over at Christiansburg in 2022 and had compiled a 25-21 record, leading the team to the regional playoffs this past year. Underwood met with returning players at the school on Sunday.
Underwood has been heavily involved with the Extreme girls’ travel program.
“I take the most pride in the relationships that I have made through basketball,” he said.
The former coach said the past two years have been transformational in his life, and he will take pride in knowing that his staff and he gave everything possible to turn the (CHS) program back into a contender.
The school is expected to begin an immediate search for his replacement.
