CHRISTIANSBURG – The Christiansburg Police Department was reaccredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission earlier this month.
The department underwent an on-site assessment in June “wherein assessors from across the state visited the department over the course of three days to review our policies, procedures, and practices to ensure they complied with standards established by the state,” the department announced. “In addition to the policy review, the assessors also conducted physical inspections of our personnel, vehicles and facilities as well as conducting spot audits of our evidence room and financial records.”
“In all, the Department was evaluated on 192 established standards that include over 700 specific sub-categories,” the announcement continues.
The department was first accredited in 2000 and has passed re-accreditation every four years since.
“The Christiansburg Police Department, having been accredited for more than 24 years, was one of the first agencies in the state to achieve this recognition and it is a testament to the level of professionalism and quality of service the women and men of this agency provide to the citizens of our community,” the department’s announcement reads. “The accreditation process is detailed and thorough. Thank you to our staff who helped get CPD through the process.”
