Opal Shelor Hylton, 102, of Fairlawn, passed away Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.
She was born in Floyd County, to the late Harmon Banard Shelor and Beulah Harmon Shelor. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Howard Welden Hylton; her sister, Hazel Shelor Nester, and a brother, Thomas Shelor.
She worked at Legget and Radford Arsenal for several years. Her career was spent working at Saint Albans in Fairlawn for 28 years, first as an aide and at the time of retirement she was supervisor of Therapeutic Arts and Crafts. Assisted by co-workers, she began the Therapeutic Arts and Crafts program at Saint Albans with ceramics and then expanded into other hand crafts such as knitting, quilting, copper enameling and leatherwork. She also created flower arrangements and decorated Saint Albans for holidays and special events. She loved her years working at Saint Albans teaching craft classes using her God given talents.
She is survived by two daughters, Patrica Boone of Roanoke, and Robin Crews of Ashburn, Va.: grandsons, Todd Boone and Cale Boone; and four great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all the friends and family as well as the dedicated health care professionals with ACG Hospice, who supported Opal and her family through her final journey.
Visitation was held Friday, Nov.1, 2024 at the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church. Funeral Services were held following the visitation with Rev. Allison Unroe officiating. Interment followed at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin.
