RINER – Montgomery County Public Schools has announced Mr. Phillip Ashby as its 2025-2026 Teacher of the Year.
Ashby teaches Technology Education and Robotics at Auburn Middle School.
Ashby’s passion for education is showcased through his lessons in the classroom and lab. He encourages his students to learn through hands-on opportunities and inspires students to explore careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math).
Ashby is an active partner with the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, which provides him with opportunities to showcase space exploration throughout MCPS. In the summer of 2024, he was one of 60 educators selected to attend NASA’s Liftoff Institute in Houston, TX.
“Mr. Ashby is a phenomenal teacher and representative of MCPS,” Superintendent Bernard F. Bragen, Jr. said. “He strives to reach every student and pushes them to reach their full potential every day. We’re proud to have Mr. Ashby in MCPS.”
Mr. Ashby will be entered in the competition for Virginia’s Region 6 Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced in 2025.
