Joyce Helen Herron passed away on Dec. 26, 2024 following a long battle with Alzheimers.
Joyce was born in Atoka, Oklahoma March 3, 1942. She was the youngest daughter of Lafayette Delton (L.D.) Loudermilk and Bertha Williams Loudermilk.
Joyce met her first husband, Richard Herron when he was stationed at Tinker Air Force base, outside of Oklahoma City.
Joyce and Richard raised their three sons in Warrenton, Virginia, where Joyce enjoyed her work for many years at Fauquier Hospital as a registered nurse.
Joyce moved to Christiansburg in 1999, to be closer to her grandchildren, and where she enjoyed continued work as a nurse until her retirement.
Following retirement, Joyce enjoyed volunteering at Commonwealth Senior Living and at her Seventh Day Adventist church, where she met her soon-to-be husband John David. They enjoyed gardening and walks with her faithful dog Bandit.
Shortly after John’s passing in 2018, Joyce moved into Commonwealth Senior Living, where she made many friends and enjoyed visits from family.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Dennis Herron, Dwight Herron and Keith Herron, her daughter’s in-law Robyn Furey, Stephanie Herron and Melanie Herron, her grandchildren Sam Herron, Ambre Herron, Ben Herron, Ella Herron and Ambie Herron.
A memorial service was held at McCoy Funeral Home Monday, Dec. 30, followed by interment at Westview Cemetery.
