Blacksburg Community Center basketball gyms closed

The basketball gyms at the Blacksburg Community Center will be closed through Friday, Jan. 17 for floor refinishing. Aerobics, back and Zumba classes originally scheduled for the gym will be offered in other rooms. For more information, call the Community Center at 540-443-1140.

Radford photo club meeting

The work of renowned photographer Robert Frank will be presented by eva nichole hinrichsen of Blacksburg at the Radford Photo Club’s meeting at 6 p.m. at the Radford Public Library. The club’s photo theme for January will be “festivities.” There is also an open category. The Radford Photo Club is made up of professional and amateur photographers from throughout the New River Valley. Meetings, events, and outings are open to the public. Sons of Confederate Veterans meeting

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Stuart Horse Artillery Camp 1784 will meet at 7 p.m. at Aly’s Italian Family Restaurant, 3204 Riner Rd. Members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) are also invited to attend. For more information, please call 540-320-4315 or 540-239-9864.

Blacksburg Farmers Market

At Market Square Park, 100 Draper Rd SW, Blacksburg; New Hours for Jan.: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is a local, family-friendly gathering place in downtown Blacksburg featuring farmers of locally grown produce and meats, alongside artisans of baked goods and handmade crafts. NRV Diecast and Toy Show

The NRV Diecast and Toy Show at Central Church, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event includes 90 tables of diecast cars, comics, toys and collectibles. Adult admission is $5, children are free. The event is hosted by Now, Then and Forever Collectibles.

 

Monday, Jan. 27:

 

Radford City Council meeting

The Radford City Council will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the Radford Municipal Building, 10 Robertson St., Radford. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. See the agenda at www.radfordva.gov.

 

Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting

Public meetings are normally held the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Montgomery County Government Center, 755 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Closed sessions begin at 6 p.m. if needed. Open sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. Citizens are invited to attend and allowed to speak at each meeting. All regular meetings of the Board of Supervisors are rebroadcast on Montgomery County Comcast and Shentel Channels 190 daily.

 

Tuesday, Jan. 28:

 

Blacksburg Town Council meeting

The council meets in regular session the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. These meetings are open to the public and televised live on WTOB Channel 2.

 

Christiansburg Town Council meeting

Regular town council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall (100 E. Main St.). The public is welcome and encouraged to attend, with a citizen hearing time reserved at each meeting for residents to bring any matter they desire before the entire council. The meeting will be live streamed to the Town’s YouTube page at www.christiansburg.org/YouTube. Please copy and paste the URL into your browser and be sure to select Live videos to view. Agendas and minutes can be viewed at www.christiansburg.org/agendasandminutes.

 

Saturday, Feb. 8:

 

Mount Tabor Ruritan Biscuit Breakfast

Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will be serving up hot biscuits topped with delicious sausage gravy, or with the latest batch of the club’s “world-famous” apple butter. Breakfast also includes scrambled eggs, juice and coffee. Breakfast will be served in the Fellowship Hall of Slusser’s Chapel, 1543 Mount Tabor Rd, Blacksburg, 8 -10 a.m., below the sanctuary, on the lower church parking lot level. This is a fundraiser for the club to help serve the community, and donations will be accepted for the breakfast. More information at https://fb.com/MtTaborRuritan.

Blacksburg Christmas tree collection

Christmas tree collection is available to all Town of Blacksburg refuse and recycling customers. Collection will occur during the first two weeks of January, ending on Friday, January 17. Place your tree at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on Monday, January 13 to ensure pickup. Collected trees will be chipped and used as an alternate fuel source. Trees and greenery must be free of all decorations and wires. For more information, email recycle@blacksburg.gov or call 540-443-1200.

 

2025 Blacksburg Citizens Institute: Registration Open

Do you want to learn more about the Town of Blacksburg? Are you a new, current or longtime resident, retiree, or someone who wants to get involved in the community? Join us for the 2025 Citizens Institute to meet town staff and to learn about the functions of your local government. Classes will be held on Monday evenings from April – June, 6-8 p.m. Participants must be 18 years of age or older and must be residents of the Town of Blacksburg. Space is filling up fast. To register and to learn more, contact the Community Relations Office at cro@blacksburg.gov or call 540-443-1090.

 

Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam at Bee & Butter

Bee & Butter restaurant, in the Highlander Hotel, is now open on Monday nights during the Radford Fiddle and Banjo Jam. The jam is held 6- 9 p.m. each Monday evening.
