BLACKSBURG – The Blacksburg High School (BHS) Student Council Association (SCA) is calling on the community for donations to help fund its annual Thanksgiving Baskets Project, a tradition proudly maintained for 22 years.
The SCA’s goal for this year is to raise over $19,000 to fund the baskets. While the students have already raised $12,500, they are currently about $6,000 short of their fundraising target.
The Thanksgiving Baskets Project, which began over 20 years ago, has become an important initiative for the BHS SCA. With the help of local police departments, kind volunteers, and 40 SCA representatives, the program provides direct meals to families, schools, and community organizations across the New River Valley (NRV), ensuring all community members can look forward to celebrating the holidays.
“The Thanksgiving Baskets Project was started over 20 years ago and has since become an initiative that Blacksburg High School Student Council Association is proud to continue,” an SCA representative stated. “Any and all support would be deeply appreciated!”
The SCA has a firm policy of not turning families down. Any families in need will be receiving donations. Requests are received directly from families, through teachers, guidance counselors, and clergy, or families can request a basket directly through their child’s school or through BHS.
The BHS SCA encourages community members to contribute and help them meet their goal:
Monetary donations: The SCA is accepting monetary donations through the end of the month.
