James Ernest Everhart, Sr., 80, passed away Wednesday, Mar. 27, 2024. Jimmy was born May 18, 1943, in Loudoun County, the son of the late Calvin Everhart and Margie Fleming.
He was a proud Vietnam veteran having served as a Sgt. in the U. S. Army as a helicopter crew chief to the Lt. Col. from 1967 – 69. He was a member of the Radford VFW Post #776 and the American Legion – Dublin Post # 58 where he was a member of the honor guard for many years. In his early years he was an auto mechanic and moved on to spend his career as a master carpenter and had built many buildings and homes in the Northern Virginia and NRV areas.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a great storyteller and shared his life experiences with others. He liked classic cars and had quite a collection of different models.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jeanne (Ray) Phillipson.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, June H. Everhart; children, Anne Elizabeth Helms (Robert) and James E. Everhart, Jr. (April); grandchildren, James Everhart III (Misha You), Devon Everhart (Samantha), and Carissa “Ashley” Helms (Svenja Williams); great grandchildren, Magnolia Dean Everhart and Greyson Piercy; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Barrett and Peggy Everhart, and Randolph and Linda Everhart; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Bill Rutter; honorary brothers, Gary Harris and Ray Powell; and many other relatives and friends.
The family received friends Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at the funeral home with Rev. Don Shelor officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
