BLACKSBURG – The Brunswick Stew Fundraiser had another great year thanks to the many community members that participated, through their volunteerism and the many customers that came out to buy the delicious dish.
The Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County sold out early Saturday morning, which has been a trend for the past three years.
This year’s event sold 739 quarts and had over $100 in additional donations, Kiwanis Club Member Linda Felts said.
“Thank you especially to Marsha and Sandy Smith for their hard work, and to all of the volunteers. We had several teachers from PFES, and two CKI members, so a true community effort. It was a good day,” Felts said.
Kiwanis Club of Montgomery County-Blacksburg sponsors VT Circle K, a campus service club. The organization also sponsors the Key Club at Blacksburg High School, with Christiansburg Kiwanis Club sponsoring the Christiansburg High School Key Club.
“Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Co-Blacksburg began making Brunswick stew 17 years ago with John Drew Clary and his crew, now operating out of Radford and not Brunswick County VA. Signature projects are recurring, have significant impact on youth, and involve many volunteers. Brunswick stew is a joint effort with Price’s Fork Elementary school teachers, staff, and parents and most Kiwanis Club members and spouses and youth organizations sponsored by Kiwanis. We make over 725 quarts of stew and have sold out early Saturday morning the last three years,” Jerry Jones, the Long-Range Planning Committee Chairperson for Montgomery County’s Kiwanis Club said.
The organization’s next signature event will be held at Auburn Hills Golf Course in Riner on June 1. Additional information about the upcoming event can be found at https://www.montgomeryblacksburgkiwanis.org.
