The Virginia High School League released its statewide Master Football schedule this past week with some interesting matchups.
For our area schools, there will be plenty of intriguing out-of-district matchups.
Christiansburg will play former mentor, Tim Cromer, in Floyd on August 30. Abingdon will travel to the NRV on September 6. Then in the middle of its schedule, the Blue Demons will host perennial-state power Riverheads on October 4.
Blacksburg will also have a game with Cromer and his Floyd squad on September 13 and then longtime rival Giles to jumpstart the season at home on August 30. Two other out-of-district games include road games at Rockbridge and Lord Botetourt.
Radford will continue to open the season at former New River District-rival George Wythe (August 30) with former Virginia High now-Radford Coach Michael Crist facing a familiar face in Virginia High on September 18. The Bobcats will face its second former NRD foe in Giles on September 6.
Eastern Montgomery continues to dive deep into southwest Virginia with games against Holston (August 30), Rural Retreat (September 6) and Northwood (September 13). The Mustangs also pick up a contest with Ft. Chiswell on September 27.
Meanwhile, Auburn will tangle with out-of-district foes in Narrows (August 30), Craig County (September 6) and a cross-county matchup with Eastern Montgomery on August 20. The Eagles will also play Bath County on October 11.
