Thelma J. Shelor, 91, of Warm Hearth Village, Blacksburg, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus, Wednesday night, July 3, 2024.
Thelma was born Feb. 3, 1933, to the late Alvie H. and Hazel W. Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband Kelly Shelor, daughter, Kathy Shelor Bennett, and sisters, Barbara Jones and Bonnie Jones Linkous.
Left to cherish her memory are children Leah Tate (Jessie), Kelly Rex (Doris) Shelor, Dwight “Dickie” (Phyllis) Shelor, Micky Eugene “Gene” (Mary) Shelor, and Crystal Eckberg (Erik); nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; sisters Maggie Alene Jones and Diana Jones; brother-in-law Rev. Buford Linkous; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and close friends.
Thelma loved the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she attended all her life and served in many capacities, including Sunday School teacher and Women’s Ministries Director for many years. She was also active in community volunteer programs and Red Hat Society. Thelma was a resident of Warm Hearth Village for 24 years where she also took active part in activities and surrounded herself with new friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Kroontje Health Care Center for their care and helpfulness during Thelma’s stay. We would also like to thank the Good Sam Hospice staff for their excellent care.
The family received friends Saturday, July 6, 2024, at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive SW, Blacksburg, Virginia, 24060. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 7, 2024 in the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Richard Hall officiating. Interment followed in the Jennelle Cemetery.
