MONTGOMERY Co. – The towns of Christiansburg and Blacksburg celebrated Independence Day with their residents with fireworks and a day full of events.

Christiansburg started the day with their annual 4th of July Festival on Main Street in Christiansburg. The event began at 10 a.m. and went well into the evening with live music and vendors from around Montgomery County. The fair had a Grub Zone for popular food vendors like The Taco ‘Bout and Space Rabbit Coffee. There was also a kids section that had a clown, face painting and Christiansburg Fire and EMS trucks for the little ones and the young at heart to enjoy. The live music had something for everyone with local bands like Solacousix, Lonesome Heart and Isaac Hayden. Residents were encouraged to walk around or bring their own chairs to watch the music. Some residents even danced in the street to the live music and in celebration of the holiday.

Blacksburg hosted their annual Downtown Parade sponsored by the Mount Tabor Ruritans at 2 p.m. The parade started on Eheart Street, went through Main Street Blacksburg and ended on Alumni Mall. This year’s theme was “A Child’s Fourth of July.” The parade hosted marchers, old school cars adorned with American flags, and Blacksburg Police, Fire and EMS. After the parade, at 6 p.m., Blacksburg had live music at Municipal Park for residents to enjoy and residents could stay there to have the best view to watch the fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

Christiansburg’s fireworks were at 9:15 p.m. and residents were encouraged to park in the Uptown Mall parking lots or Walmart parking lots for the best view. Residents came out and watched the fireworks from the beds of their trucks, lawn chairs and even blankets. When the Christiansburg fireworks were done, residents could turn their heads and see the Blacksburg display as well.
