BLACKSBURG- The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club hosted an open house event Sept. 26, 2024 and had a great turn out despite heavy rains and strong winds.
As a supporter of Montgomery County as a whole, the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club hosts many events throughout the year to fundraise and encourage new members to join. The open house hosted many activities and booths from other organizations, but also sold their famous apple butter, which residents of Montgomery County look forward to each year. The apple butter is made with local produce and is normally sold out by Thanksgiving.
The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club’s open house had something for everyone. It wasn’t just about the apple butter and biscuits. This event included a table where the young ones could make and decorate ornaments for the Kent Square Christmas tree, a table and poster celebrating the Fourth of July Parade that the Ruritan Club hosts and a photo opportunity with “Dolly,” a life-size Dolly Parton cut-out, courtesy of the Imagination Library.
Families and residents still came out to support the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club even though the storms caused by Hurricane Helene kept many others home and seeking shelter from the winds and rain. Hurricane Helene’s storms had caused flooding, loss of power and fallen trees all around Montgomery County and its neighboring counties like Roanoke County. Luckily, those who came out to support the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club and their open house were warm, safe and left with biscuits in their bellies. The Mount Tabor Ruritan Club will be hosting more events this fall like their Biscuit Breakfasts and many others as the holiday season approaches. The proceeds from these events go towards helping other organizations locally, scholarships, and supporting the food pantry.
