The final week of high school football will determine where and how both Radford and Christiansburg find themselves in the postseason.
Those two will await the results of Friday night before the brackets are set as they both have open dates this week.
At least for Christiansburg, some of those were determined this week with losses by four of the top six teams in the Virginia High School League’s points standings for Region 3D.
For now, the brackets are unofficially this way:
In 3D, Abingdon won its Friday night game and should remain at number one. They would host Northside or Staunton River. Northside downed Lord Botetourt this past week. The number seven team would as of now would face Lord Botetourt who lost and could fall to the number three spot.
Christiansburg’s opponent could be the third-seed Magna Vista, who has a chance to move up a spot with Botetourt’s loss, thus meaning Christiansburg would then travel to Lord Botetourt. As the fourth and fifth seeds, Carroll County would face William Byrd.
But in the overall picture, Christiansburg could fall a spot to number seven. Again, there are a few games this coming week, which could affect everything.
William Byrd’s final game is against Northside. Botetourt has Franklin County, while Magna Vista plays Mecklenburg County for their season finale.
In 2D, Glenvar is the top seed with Radford in second. Under the current points, Glenvar would host Patrick County, and Radford would face Nelson County.
Expect Floyd to fall to the number four spot after their loss to Radford. Floyd would then face Appomattox. Gretna would square off with a familiar foe in Martinsville.
In the final week, Floyd will face Alleghany, Gretna versus William Campbell, Appomattox and Dan River, Patrick County and James River, and Martinsville against Halifax.
So, the playoff scenario could have several changes after these final games are played out.
Player of the week: Marshall Tate scored three touchdowns for Eastern Montgomery and finished with 164 yards on 21 carries in his team’s win over Twin Valley.
Predictions:
