CHRISTIANSBURG- The Town of Christiansburg has released a call for artists regarding a pending mural space downtown.
The Town of Christiansburg Public Arts Advisory Board issued a call seeking artists and painters for a downtown mural that would be located at 3 Roanoke St. in Christiansburg. Mural designs submitted for this call should depict the beauty of the New River Valley. This would be, for artists, a great space to highlight features that are unique to the NRV or show what makes the NRV the place to live, work and have fun.
According to their open call for artists, the potential winning submission would be compensated for up to $8,000 with the material costs being funded by the Town of Christiansburg separately from the compensation. The Town of Christiansburg asks that those who submit for this opportunity be able to demonstrate experience relevant to the task in question, as well as be 18 or older or be able to provide expressed consent from a parent/guardian. Artists submitting should have experience working outdoors in public according to the call for artists.
“Applicable safety protocols will apply,” the call for artists reads, “The town will work with the artist(s) to develop a traffic control plan. Ensuring safety of the artist(s) – and the public overall – will be a high priority with any project. The artist(s) is required to identify other anticipated measures that may be needed for the completion of the project. The artist(s) shall provide the expected availability and estimated time for completion. If awarded, the contract shall include Proof of Liability Insurance, copyright and ownership of artwork, a media release form, list of promotional expectations, if any, and how and when the payment will be provided.”
For submission guidelines and more specifics, artists that are interested can go to the Town of Christiansburg website (christiansburg.org) for more information.
