For the second consecutive week, a Radford University men’s basketball student-athlete is taking home a weekly conference honor as Zion Walker was named the Big South’s Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Walker had a big week in Radford’s two game-slate against Southern Virginia and Clemson.
He started it off with a career-best 11 points in the blowout win over the Knights. To go with his scoring, the Burlington, North Carolina native also recorded a game-best four steals along with two rebounds. He then followed it up with his second career (and second straight) double-digit outing with 10 points in the clash against the ACC’s Tigers.
Walker was incredibly efficient over the two games as he went 9-of-16 (.563) from the field and 3-of-4 (.750) from the charity stripe.
To make the numbers even more impressive, the freshman guard did all of this in just 29 minutes of work between the two contests.
Over the two games, Walker posted averages of 10.5 points, two steals and one board per contest.
Bruins named to region team
Blacksburg High School had two volleyball players named to the 2024 Region 4D all-star team. Emma Castle was named to the second team, and teammate Josie Rhoades was honorable mention. |
