MONTGOMERY COUNTY- 100+ Women Who Care will be hosting their quarterly meeting on Jan. 21, 2025 to decide which local charities to support.
100+ Women Who Care is a group of women through the community who come together to care for and support other local organizations. These women come from all walks of life to meet and make an impact on their community. In the past they have supported the Imagination Library, NRVCARES, Literacy NRV and many other charities and organizations in the New River Valley.
At their quarterly meetings, the women pledge $100 each meeting to total $400 per year that they then donate to organizations that need the support. Their contributions only go to local organizations, and they do not keep any of the donations. They give 100% of the money to those in need.
At their quarterly meetings, they draw from a bucket a name of an organization that was submitted via a form prior to the meeting, then they vet it and the proceeds go directly to the organizations chosen. Three charities are selected each quarter. This means that per year, 100+ Women Who Care support at least 12 local organizations.
A previous recipient of these funds, the Imagination Library, deeply appreciates the help from 100+ Women Who Care.
“I won for the Imagination Library and it was fantastic,” said Wendy Baldwin. “Once a charity wins everyone in the group (the 100+) give their $100 to that charity. So, there is a process for deciding who gets the funds and the funds are enough to make a difference for most of us. I was over the moon when the Library won.”
The quarterly meeting for 100+ Women Who Care will be held Jan. 21, 2025 in the McClain’s Stadium Room in Blacksburg. The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. with time to mingle and chat starting at 5:45 p.m. There is also a social hour directly after the meeting.
