One of the region’s top triple jumpers has committed to the do same in college at Gardner-Webb.
Christiansburg’s Donovan Richardson made the announcement late last week after a visit to the school.
The Christiansburg senior, who also excelled on the football field, is a two-time Adidas All-American, an all-state placer and the Region 3D champion in the triple jump.
“I chose Gardner-Webb because it felt like home, the way the team goes about themselves in dealing with one another was great,” said Richardson. “Within my first few minutes meeting many of my new teammates, they welcomed me with open arms, and I felt like I had found the family I’d been looking for.”
Gardner Webb is located in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, and currently has an enrollment of over 3,000 students. The school’s athletic program is a part of the Division I Big South Conference, which includes Radford University.
Richardson said his main goal at GW is to better himself not only athletically, but as a person as a whole.
“Solely involving track though, I am looking to become a Conference Champion and National Contender at the D1 level,” he said.
Richardson plans to major in business management. He will compete in the triple and long jump and maybe adding high jump to his resume as well.
