The ACC has announced postseason awards for the indoor slate.
Virginia Tech Director of Track & Field, Ben Thomas, was tabbed as the ACC Men’s Track & Field Coach of the Year.
In his first year as director, Ben Thomas led the men’s track & field program to it’s fourth ACC team title in five seasons. The team championship was the ninth since joining the ACC in 2005 and the 22nd in the program’s history.
He coached individuals to titles in the 200m, 400m, 800m and distance medley relay at the championship, and placed five individuals and two relays on the podium. All in all, the men’s team brought home 17 All-ACC honors.
Auburn’s Royal all-state The Virginia High School League has announced its 2025 Class 1 all-state boys basketball team. George Wythe’s senior forward, Reed Kirtner, is the Class 1 Player of the Year. George Wythe’s head coach, Tony Dunford, is the Class 1 Coach of the Year.
The first-team Class 1 included Drew Royal of Auburn High School.
Hokies take 10th at nationals The men’s squad closed out the season with a 10th place finish at NCAAs, highlighted by Carles Coll Marti’s third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke, Youssef Ramadan’s eighth-place finish in the 100 butterfly and three broken school records.
Coll Marti capped off his collegiate career with a podium finish in the 200 breaststroke, where he swam a 1:48.89 that set the ACC and Virginia Tech record. His impressive performances throughout the week earned him fourth place and a new school record in the 200 IM (1:39.52) and 13th place in the 100 breaststroke. He leaves Federal Way a three-time First Team All-American and three-time Honorable Mention All-American.
Ramadan also closed out his collegiate career with a podium finish in the 100 fly. The fifth-year swam a 44.15 and earned First Team All-America honors. For his 10th place finish in the 100 back (44.72) and 12th place finish in the 100 free (41.53), he earned Honorable Mention All-America.
Brendan Whitfield had an impressive showing at his second NCAA Championships, earning Honorable Mention All-America in the 100 free (41.69) with a 15th-place finish. The sophomore also competed in the 50 free prelims, where he took 18th place (18.98).
Vaulters shine in Texas Virginia Tech’s pole vault event group traveled down to Austin for the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays presented by Truist Mar. 26-29.
Lyndsey Reed boasted a Virginia Tech personal-best in the pole vault at the Texas Relays, claiming the No. 6 all-time top 10 performance slot for Virginia Tech with her 4.37m (14’4″) mark. She now owns all-time top 10 performances for indoor and outdoor pole vault.
Ben Conacher collected an outdoor pole vault personal-best of 5.45m (17’10.5″) at the meet, landing tied for 10th all-time for Virginia Tech. Conacher now owns personal-best marks in the indoor and outdoor pole vault and top 10 performances for Tech in the event.
