Virginia Tech took the battle of the New River Valley this past week over Radford University in a 6-1 win at Williams Field at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium.
Tech leads 55-16 in the series.

Freshman left-hander Chase Swift delivered four scoreless innings, setting the tone for Virginia Tech to notch its fifth win during its last six games.
Swift showcased his best stuff through four scoreless innings of work, becoming the Hokies’ first midweek starter to pitch as long into a ballgame this season. The freshman southpaw recorded five strikeouts, two walks and held the Highlanders to one hit (single), at one point retiring eight consecutive batters.
Virginia Tech (17-8) followed Swift with a dose of confident pitching as, together with Swift, four Hokies arms combined to rack up 13 strikeouts, firing 99 strikes at an efficiency of 68 percent. Mathieu Curtis struck out two batters during his scoreless fifth inning while Josh Berzonski punched out five batters through two and two-thirds innings, keeping the Hokies’ shutout intact through seven innings of play.
James Ward paced the Radford offense with the only RBI of the game off a 1-for-3 showing at the dish that included the aforementioned RBI and a base on balls.
Hunter Keen kept his hot start to the year rolling with a 2-for-4 performance that featured a run scored.
Former Christiansburg High School pitcher Clay Clatterbaugh fired two scoreless innings in relief along with two strikeouts.
The two were scheduled to meet again on Tuesday in Blacksburg.
