Radford High School’s top receiver from this past year’s football team is headed to Emory and Henry to continue his playing career.
Luke Woodard, 6-3, 182, who was a member of this year’s all-county/all-city team, finished the 2024 season with 51 catches for 589 yards with 11 yards per catch. His junior year, he had 41 catches for 412 yards and eight touchdowns.
“I chose E&H because I like the coaches there, and it is close to home. Also, I’m able to see myself having success in the future there,” he said after signing a letter of intent in front of family, friends and teammates in the Radford gymnasium.
While he had success on the defensive side of the ball, he expects to play wide receiver at E&H.
The college comprises 335 acres of Washington County, which is part of the Appalachian highlands of Southwest Virginia with a current enrollment of 1,364 students.
Emory and Henry University’s sports teams, nicknamed the “Wasps,” participate in NCAA Division II in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC). The team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2025 season. Head Football Coach Quintin Hunter will lead the Wasps onto the field for his second season after posting a 9-2 record in 2024.
This year, the South Atlantic Conference returns to a round-robin schedule with all 11 teams playing one another. The Wasps will also play one non-conference contest to fill out their 11-game schedule.
The Wasps get their SAC slate started on Saturday, Sept. 6, hosting Catawba College at Fred Selfe Stadium.
Woodard is still undecided in a major.
