Auburn High School won this year’s Class 1 baseball championship after taking the Mt. Empire District regular season and tournament titles.

Auburn’s Eric Altizer and first baseman Zac McGlothin claimed the MED coach of the year awards announced Monday by district officials.

McGlothin was joined on the MED first-team by teammates, Matthew Altizer, Mitchell Hale, Jared Lavergne, Josh Givens and Brody Hensel. Three more from Auburn were named to the second-team including Graham Alley, Landon Marrs and Talan Mower. Coy Flinchum and Colin Roark on honorable mention gave the school a record total of 11 honorees.

McGlothlin and Altizer were named to the same two awards when Region C list was announced. The Region 1C team included Matthew Altizer, Hale, Lavergne and Hensel.

Eastern Montgomery’s Coltin Conner was named to the second-team Region C.

In softball, Auburn also dominated the MED all-district team. Sophomore Hope Wilson was named the player of the year. She was joined on the first-team by McKenzie Booth, Johnnie Gaynor and Ariel Mullins. The second-team included Auburn’s Samatha Anderson, Leah Whimmer and Mallory Akers. Kaylee Ramratten and Faith Wilson were named to the MED honorable mention team.

Wilson named the Region C player of year and Auburn pitcher McKenzie Booth was named the pitcher of the year. Gaynor and Mullins joined the two on the first-team all-region.

Eastern Montgomery tallied four honorees on the second-team. Mary Miller led the group along with Macie Akers, Rena Chandler and Madison Hall.

Akers was named the Pioneer District player of the year, and Mary Miller was named the pitcher of the year for the Pioneer District.

Eastern Montgomery’s Harold Osborne was named the Pioneer coach of the year after 11-7 season and a district championship.

Akers and Miller were joined on the first-team by Rena Chandler and Madison Hall. The second-team included Eastern Montgomery’s Katie Salyer, Sam Brein and Chelsie Kennedy.
