Lisa Deniene Viers, 51, of Odenton, Md., passed away unexpectedly Friday, June 27, 2025.

She was born in Radford Jan. 13, 1974, the daughter of Danny J. Viers and Sonja Harless Veltri. She graduated from Matthews High School, American InterContinental University with a BIT in Network Administration in 2006, and from the Colorado Technical University with a Master’s in Information Technology Security Management.

After high school she joined the United States Navy and attended basic training in 1991 in Orlando, Fla. During her 20 years of service, she was stationed at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, 1993-95; and 1995-2000 “Grim Reapers” NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach. While stationed in Oceana, she was one of the soldiers picked to accompany the squadron to NAS Fallon Nevada on a Top Gun detachment. She then made a career change to information technology (IT) and served in Diego Garcia 2001-02; Yokosuka, Japan 2002-04; and Fort Meade, Md. 2004 – 08. After retirement from the US Navy, she worked as a Strategic Assessment, Cyber Threat Analyst for various government contractors, US Department of Defense, and National Security Administration.

Lisa loved her family and her two cat fur-babies. She was of strong faith and had a positive outlook on life, serving as a volunteer in many organizations. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Sonja Harless and Robert J. Veltri; father, Danny James Viers; half-brother, Jaimie Viers; and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025, in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in her memory.

The family is in the care of the Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
