Addy is a senior dog, looking for a place to spend his golden years.
She has found that at English Meadows in Blacksburg.
Initially, she came to the facility with her human parents, but after it became evident they could no longer take care of her because of their own health problems, staff decided to adopt her as a “facility” pet. She has been there since February and was recently featured on a Facebook post.
Addy wanders around and has even figured out how to operate the automatic front door when she needs to go in or out of the facility.
Staff say residents have become accustomed to seeing Addy.
“They look for Addy. She makes them smile and possibly remember when they might have had their own pet.”
87-year-old Chet Fisher is one of those residents.
“My family did not have a dog, and it’s nice to see Addy.” He looks forward to seeing the dog on a regular basis.
The 13-year-old Blue Heeler mix has at least four pet beds scattered throughout the facility, including in the general manager’s office.
Residents adore her, and the occasional kids and grandkids give her plenty of attention and plenty of treats. Staff say Addy might have senior living at her best and brings something to the facility that humans don’t bring.
English Meadows is located at 3400 Southpoint Drive in Blacksburg.
