The YMCA at Virginia Tech has announced a donation of $1,520 from the University Club of VPI & SU in support of its Meals On Main program.

The donation was from member donations throughout the month of November, 2024.

Through the MOM Program, the YMCA provides free, USDA-approved meals and snacks to youth aged 1-18 in Blacksburg, Christiansburg and surrounding areas. Since its inception, the program has served over 200,000 meals and snacks to local children facing food insecurity. With the help of dedicated volunteers, the YMCA has also started offering freshly cooked meals at select locations via its mobile kitchen.

Ryan Martin, CEO of the YMCA at Virginia Tech, expressed deep gratitude for the University Club’s generous support.

“Their donation enables us to continue our essential work of feeding local children and is a true reflection of the strong sense of community in the NRV,” he said.

Beth Ifju, chair of the annual Thanks and Giving project, of the University Club, presented the check to YMCA representatives, including Jim Lawrence, Board Treasurer, Patricia Boyle, Board Member, and Ryan Martin. Lawrence commented, “Receiving the check at the Y Center and coming together to address such a critical issue was incredibly meaningful. This donation is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we unite for a common cause.”

Members of the University Club expressed their enthusiasm for the project, with one member exclaiming, “I just love helping out the kiddos!”

For those interested in supporting Meals On Main, donations can be made online at https://vtymca.org/support-the-y/ or by mailing a check to The YMCA at Virginia Tech, 403 Washington St SW, Blacksburg, VA 24060.
