Dear Editor,
Regarding https://montcova.com/2025/07/15/delegate-details-changes-to-medicaid-in-virginia/
Medicare cuts by the Trump administration to pay for a trillion-dollar tax cut for millionaires will affect over 300,000 poor Virginians adversely but GOP candidates like Jason Ballard are praising the policy and falsely claiming that fewer people would lose healthcare coverage as a result of the cuts. Ballard is out of touch with public health needs and that is part of the reasons why I am running against him to give District 42 a compassionate leadership.
Ballard was among the 19 Republican Party Delegates who voted to give parental rights to convicted rapists against the physical and psychological health of the rape survivor but 30 Republicans joined the 51 Democratic Party Delegates to pass the Bill and deny the out of touch opposition of Jason Ballard. That is why I am running against Ballard to help to protect women’s rights as human rights in Virginia.
Delegate Jason Ballard (R), representing District 42 in the Virginia House of Delegates, was the only delegate present but not voting in the 97-0 vote to approve the Bill sponsored by the first African American Speaker of the House, Don Scott, to appoint lawyers on the committee for alcohol safety in Virginia. Ballard does not get the need for public safety.
Jason Ballard may have refused to vote for the public safety Bill because he has a conflict of interest. He was the sponsor of another Bill that did not pass, proposing to exempt from licensure adults who produce up to 50 gallons of moonshine alcoholic spirits or 100 gallons if there are two adults in the household for their own personal use. He also advertises his law firm as specializing in ‘fighting against Driving Under the Influence laws.’ If Jason Ballard’s special interests make him an opponent of public health and safety, he is not fit to represent District 42 in the General Assembly. That is why I am running against him to offer the voters a clear choice.
Yours truly,
Dr. Biko Agozino, Professor of Sociology and the Democratic Party Nominee for the Virginia House of Delegates, District 42
Christiansburg
