The Christiansburg Farmers Market is currently being held at Huckleberry Park but is planned to move to a permanent structure on Hickok Street once the structure is completed.

For the past few months, the Christiansburg Farmers Market has been held at Huckleberry Park, having moved from its previous location at the Christiansburg Recreation Center.

The Town of Christiansburg would like to see the market moved to downtown next season, but that decision is not sitting well with some attendees and vendors of the market, who point to the amenities at Huckleberry Park, like ample parking, restroom facilities and the park’s playground and splash pad as positives to keeping the market at its current location. The plan was to host the market at the park only until a permanent structure is completed on Hickok Street.

Now, Christiansburg Town Council has released a survey asking for Christiansburg residents’ opinions on the farmers market’s future.

“We believe the Farmers Market belongs downtown,” the town’s statement reads. “A market is more than a place to buy food, it is an investment that attracts people and creates steady activity for downtown. With more businesses opening and momentum building, the market can play an important role in strengthening downtown as a destination.”

The town’s survey asks questions including the value and impact it has for Christiansburg, as well as where it should be located. In addition to this, the town “strongly recommends that residents watch the recent town council work session recording to gain an understanding as to the town’s current opinions on the farmers market.”

For this season, which lasts until Oct. 30 each Thursday 3-7 p.m., the market will remain at Huckleberry Park.

Go to www.christiansburg.org to take the survey and find the link to the town council work session.
