Christiansburg Fire Department keeps residents safe

Most of us don’t appreciate the fire department until we see a house in flames. It is a terrible sight. Everything a person or family owns being destroyed. It is one of the worse events individuals can experience.

In the last year, the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to 1,368 calls – including 100 calls in one day during the ice storm last winter. The volunteers are here to help us maintain our homes so that we can keep our homes in proper condition.

During the month of October they are offering several special events, particularly during Fire Prevention Week, October 5-11. One of them is “Touch a Truck” at the Christiansburg Fire Department. It is a chance for kids and adults to see fire trucks up close. The event will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety.” It is all about keeping Christiansburg safe.

Another event during Christmas is seeing Santa on a fire truck in the Christmas parade and when Santa rides through town collecting food donations to support local families.

The fire department relies on donations to maintain equipment, provide training and to respond swiftly when needed. Donations are always appreciated, whether it is $5 or $500, your gift helps save lives. Send donations to Christiansburg Fire Department, 110 Depot St., Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
