Portion of Huckleberry Trail closed Nov. 2025 – Feb. 2026

A section of the Huckleberry Trail in Montgomery County will be closed beginning Nov. 3, 2025, for repairs to bridges and trail infrastructure.

The closure will extend from Bridge 1 (as noted on the map accompanying this story) to the Hightop Road area. The section of the trail is highlighted in yellow on the map.

This closure will not affect the trail entrance at Uptown Christiansburg/Mall; however, construction will begin approximately one mile from this entrance when heading toward Blacksburg. Similarly, trail access northbound from Hightop Road toward Blacksburg will remain open. Please note that Coal Mining Heritage Park will be closed during this time.

This section of the trail will be closed to both pedestrians and cyclists for the duration of the project. No detour is available due to the nature of the work. The trail is expected to reopen in March 2026.

While any trail closure is inconvenient, the winter months were selected for this project due to lower trail usage by citizens. Signage has been posted along the Huckleberry Trail in both Blacksburg and Christiansburg to indicate the closed portion of the trail. The estimated cost for the extensive construction and engineering project is $1 million.
