DUBLIN – A phone call indicating a possible shooter was on the campus of New River Community College’s main campus Friday led to a lockdown of the campus, as well as Pulaski County Public Schools.

According to information released by NRCC, on Friday, Feb. 20, “NRCC received a phone call indicated that a possible shooter was on campus in Godbey Hall.”

“NRCC immediately contacted local law enforcement, who arrived within minutes,” the statement reads. “NRCC went on lockdown while law enforcement investigated and cleared campus. The lockdown was lifted at 10:14 a.m. No threat was found. Law enforcement will continue to investigate the phone call. The college remained closed for the remainder of the day.

Pulaski County Public Schools also went into lockdown on Friday. PCPS Superintendent Rob Graham made a statement following the lockdown.

“I would like to commend all students, staff, parents and community members for the absolutely professional way the incident at NRCC… was handled by all,” he announced. “I am grateful for this caring community…providing proving us the grace and patience we needed to keep our students and staff safe while the investigation was taking place.”

In the Friday, Feb. 20 statement, NRCC thanked “all the local first responders who assisted on campus today. Thank you to our NRCC faculty, staff, and students for remaining calm and cooperating with law enforcement during this time.”
